The Rivers State Police Command has stepped into an alleged theft of a month-old baby from the state-owned Braithwaite Memorial Hospital (BMH) Port Harcourt, by a female medical staff of the hospital.
The missing child, Godspower, is a twin son of a young mother, Miss Ifeoma Abuwa, who had taken her babies there for medical attention.
Already, the suspect has been arrested by detectives.
It was gathered that 18-year-old Ifeoma accompanied by her father and a female neighbour had taken the twins, Godswill and Godspower to the hospital on the fateful day.
On their arrival in the hospital, a female staff, who introduced herself as a nurse, who initially faulted them for coming late, later offered to help them ensure the babies’ treatment.
As events later turned out, the unsolicited help was to be the beginning of the young mother’s nightmare.
Narrating her ordeal to Daily Sun at their 96 Azikiwe Street, Diobu residence, Ifeoma said the woman later asked her father, Mr. Abuwa, a driver with Nigerian Agip Oil Company, to write out the twins’ names to enable her process the cards for their immunization.
“My dad wrote the children’s names, date of birth and our home address and gave it to the woman.  The woman left and carried another baby and started registering that one and I asked myself, what is happening because she was not attending to us.”.....
